FINDING FARMLAND – A workshop for new and beginning farmers

Are you thinking of turning your farming dream into a reality? Do you have questions about the viability of raising animal or vegetable products for sale?

Whether you want to start a new business or need guidance on how to navigate agricultural tax laws, this is the class to get you started!

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County and Ulster County educators and local professionals to learn what a potential renter or buyer of agricultural land should know. Topics include evaluating soils/land, zoning, and infrastructure for various agricultural enterprises.

The workshop will begin at Tilly Foster Farm in Brewster with a brief introduction and presentation about land considerations and tax assessment information. We will then visit agricultural land to discuss property considerations. Lunch will be provided at Tilly Foster Farm before leaving for the afternoon session, where we will visit a local farm already in production. Your own transportation will be required between sites. Workshop will end at Artemis Farm Brewster at 111 Brewster Hill Rd, Brewster.

Space is limited to 20 participants. Pre-registration is required by October 25th.

Registration includes lunch and is $20/person. If you need assistance registering for this program, please contact rek247@cornell.edu.
